There is not much to be said that better people than myself couldn't have said any better. Read this book if you truly want to understand computers, society, or all of the above.
You can find this book all across the internet (for free! There are quite a few copies saved to [Archive.org]) or you can pick up a used physical paperback for a few dollars on thriftbooks or ebay. Personally finding one post-1965 is likely the best version as it has a few corrections and a new afterword.
